Precinct Officer Duties & Responsibilities

Precinct meetings are not required. If you wish to have precinct meetings for organizational purposes, you may, but precincts no longer elect delegates to your county convention. If you hold precinct meetings, you should publicize them widely to ensure that Democrats in your county know they can participate. They may be held at any time except during the period between your county and state conventions.

Precinct Officers are elected at the County Convention.  We primarily need Precinct Executive Committee people and alternates.

  • Each Precinct Executive Committee person is a member of the County Executive Committee, which is the governing body of the County Party
    • The County Executive Committee is responsible for seeing that the County Democratic Party does the following:
      • Carries out its legal duties
      • Raises sufficient money
      • Is organized well enough to be a significant factor in electing Democrats
  • The Precinct Executive Committee person will represent your precinct on the County Democratic Executive Committee
  • The Precinct Executive Committee person has voting privileges for county business and is expected to attend those meetings (minimum of 4 meetings per year)
  • For Precincts with several active persons, these other positions can be filled
    • Precinct President, Vice President(s), Secretary, Treasurer
  • These officers work together to do the following activities in their precinct:
    • Register voters
    • Canvass your neighbors
    • Assist with Get out the Vote (GOTV) efforts
    • Get to know your Democratic neighbors
    • Etc.

Precinct Leaders should consider signing up for Democracy Building for training on how to interact with your precinct.
