South Carolina Filmmaker Emily Harrold is in the midst of a new documentary about South Carolina’s Sister Senators – Katrina Shealy, Margie Bright Matthews, Mia McLeod, Sandy Senn, and Penry Gustafson.
The Sister Senators documentary tells the story of how these five women – the only women serving in the South Carolina state Senate – banded together to form a bipartisan coalition to filibuster a near-total abortion ban in SC. Their courage working across party lines in a time of deep partisan polarization won them a John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage award but ultimately lost all but one of them their seat in the state legislature.
They are hosting a very special preview evening for the documentary at The Nickelodeon Theater in Columbia, South Carolina on Monday, April 28th from 5pm to 7pm. The evening will feature a cocktail hour, panel discussion with all five Sister Senators moderated by Judi Gatson, and the reveal of a trailer for the documentary.
This event will help raise funds to finish the film through the non-profit The Southern Documentary Fund.
Tickets and contributions to this fund are tax-deductible and 100% of your gift will go towards finishing the project and bringing the story of the Sister Senator’s to life.
You can RSVP/contribute here. Tickets start at $75.
