Galivants Ferry Stump

12:00 PM12:00

Galivants Ferry Stump

The Galivants Ferry Stump, which has been held biennially for 142 years, is considered the oldest and largest “stump speaking” in the nation. Galivants Ferry itself became hallowed grounds for Horry County Democrats when General Wade Hampton arrived there on horseback in late September to initiate his history-making gubernatorial campaign of 1876. This marked the beginning of Democratic dominance in South Carolina politics for the next hundred years.

The 2018 Galivants Ferry Stump speaking will take place on Saturday, April 14 at Pee Dee Farms General Store in Galivants Ferry, SC. This is the first time in the event’s history that the Stump will take place on a weekend.

The historic event will follow the traditional festival format with live bluegrass music, delicious country cuisine, children’s activities, and clogging starting at 12:00 p.m., with the political speakers beginning at 2:00 p.m. Speeches will include Democratic candidates for governor, congressional districts and state constitution offices, as well as state and local offices.
