Meet the Leaders Shaping Lexington’s Future: Joe Madge

For nearly a decade, I have worked from the inside to build a political system that truly represents our community. My commitment to Lexington County goes beyond talk—it’s rooted in years of dedicated, hands-on service. After years of grassroots organizing, I am running for the Statehouse to bring this same dedication directly to the people of West Columbia, Cayce, and Springdale.

The Root: What is your favorite local spot, tradition, or memory in Lexington County, and how does it shape the way you view our community?

Now that my wife and I are empty nesters, we enjoy spending time with friends at local restaurants and brewpubs, such as Keg Cowboy in Lexington and Weco Bottle and Biergarten in West Columbia.

The Daily Reality: Aside from politics, what is your day job or daily routine, and how does it open your eyes to the actual struggles facing working families in our district?

I work full time as an Engineer at a tire manufacturer in Sumter. I travel over 50 miles of roads each way to work and see the conditions of our infrastructure. I also see how even with good paying jobs some of our employees are working paycheck to paycheck.

The Fix: If you could fix one frustrating daily problem for families on your block tomorrow morning, what would it be?

If I could fix one thing, it would be to reduce traffic through well-planned roads and alternate routes and easy-to-use public transportation such as trains or subways.

The Vision: Why are you stepping up right now when staying on the sidelines would be easier? What gives you hope for the future of South Carolina?

I am running because I got tired of being frustrated with our state government for not addressing issues that could improve the lives of all South Carolinians. I think my district is ready for change and we can put checks and balances back in the government and actually make positive improvements.
